The present invention provides methods for decreasing post-exercise recovery time in a subject using compositions comprising one or more polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs). In preferred embodiments, the composition is an orange peel extract as described herein. In certain embodiments, post-exercise recovery time is the time for a subject's post-exercise oxygen consumption (VO.sub.2) level to return to a pre-exercise VO.sub.2 level.
